Plenty of people walk into Caroca, order a drink and, sooner or later, ask the same thing: “why are you called that?”. The answer lies in one of Granada’s best-loved and cheekiest traditions: the carocas.
What are the carocas?
The carocas are a Granadan tradition tied to Corpus Christi: large illustrated panels that, through drawing and satirical verse, review the year’s news with humour and a pinch of mischief. Politics, society, whatever got people talking… it all passes through the filter of Granada’s dry wit. They’re hung in the centre so people can stroll by, read them and have a laugh.
Bib-Rambla, the heart of the carocas
And there’s one square that is their home above all: Plaza de Bib-Rambla. During Corpus, the square fills with carocas and with locals reading them in little huddles. It’s exactly the square where you’ll find us: at Bib-Rambla 12, right in the centre. So the name was no accident.
10 cocktails, 10 carocas
We loved the idea so much —illustration, wit and humour with a Granadan accent— that we made it our own. At Caroca every cocktail has its own caroca: a short, cheeky verse that goes with it on the menu. Ten cocktails and ten carocas, so reading the menu is also good for a laugh.
